Today I’m going to share how I grew this newsletter to 1600 subscribers entirely from free Reddit posts.
I’m going to deconstruct my whole marketing strategy so you can learn how to create viral content on Reddit, or take the strategies and apply them to other social media platforms.
Ok. Let’s get into it.
1/ Choose the right subreddit or community to market in
Reddit has separate subreddits or communities that you can post on. Each subreddit has different rules that you have to follow and a different audience that follows it.
Think of it like a hashtag that sends your content to one community.
#branding, #businessdeconstructed, #entrepreneurs etc.

To get the greatest success, you need to choose the subreddit that your target audience uses and promote your own business.
But some subreddits are very strict and you will get banned if you do any marketing. Read the rules and community description to see if you can advertise before posting.
You can also create your own subreddit where you make the rules and can promote freely.
Making a subreddit also improves your SEO (search engine optimization) and AEO (answer engine optimization) as AI takes a lot of information from Reddit.
I created r/BusinessDeconstructed, a subreddit for this newsletter instead of posting in other subreddits. It took months of consistent posting for the subreddit to grow and reach the right audience, but now we’ve reached 16,000 members and are growing fast.
For most people starting on Reddit, I recommend finding a few subreddits that align with your niche and allow marketing. I would start off posting there.
2/ Learn how to communicate and format your posts
Like every platform, there is a specific way you need to communicate and format posts.
Reddit is one where you write with a specific and messy structure in contrast to a professional LinkedIn post or an AI YouTube script.
It is preferred NOT to have absolutely correct capitalization and grammar. It is also ok to write in long block paragraphs.
The best way to learn the style is to read the content in your targeted subreddits and understand their language and format.
3/ Templatize and cross-post content
These are the most powerful growth strategies on Reddit. I go into more depth in this previous article, but here are the most important points.
Create templates from successful posts. Look at the most successful Reddit posts and create a swipe file or collection of them. From this, use the same structure but change the content and add your unique thoughts.
Cross-post content. If you create content that does well on one subreddit, adjust it slightly and post it on a different subreddit. Since Reddit doesn’t have followers, the reposted content is actually new content for most people, and this won’t hurt your brand.
Gift: The Reddit Vault

This is my personal swipe file with the best-performing Reddit posts that I’ve seen.
It includes the original post link, the hook, the post topic, the subreddit, the content type, the CTA placement, and the number of upvotes.
This list took me hours to curate, and I reference them frequently to make content templates and format my posts the right way.
If you are interested in posting on Reddit or learning what type of hooks work on Reddit, this will be enormously valuable to you. It definitely was for me.
I might charge for this later, but it's free for you as of right now.
